JAKARTA-(IDB) : Indonesia and Canada have outlined an intention to enhance bilateral
defence industrial collaboration, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in
Jakarta said on 14 March.
According to an MoD statement, defence officials of the two countries
- led by Indonesia's Deputy Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and
Canada's ambassador to Indonesia Donald Bobiash - said the two countries
would explore potential opportunities for defence trade and related
industrial co-operation.
Defence trade between the two countries in the past has largely
featured Indonesian purchases of Canadian-made military aircraft parts
and engines. For instance, the Dirgantara N-219 light transport aircraft
is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-61 engines.
